Recognition for our community work

Multicultural Tauranga has received a number of awards on a local and national scale, e.g. by the New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils (Multicultural New Zealand) and the Human Rights Commission, for the organisation's valuable contribution to migrant/ethnic communities of Tauranga and the commitment shown by its volunteers.
Individuals of Multicultural Tauranga were also honoured for their community engagement. Run by Tauranga City and Western Bay Councils in association with the Migrant Support Network, the Recognition for Services to Migrants Award highlights volunteers who help migrants settle in their chosen new home. In 2015 and 2016 Ewa Fenn and Ann Kerewaro, respectively, were recognised for their work. A joint award by the Volunteer Centre and Eves Realty saw Ann Kerewaro become Trustee of the Year 2015.

In 2011 Tauranga Regional Multicultural Council was one of the recipients from various organisations in New Zealand to be awarded the prestigious NZ Diversity Award for an outstanding contribution to the NZ Diversity Action Programme. Each year 12 organisations are recognised at the Human Rights Commission's Diversity Forum. 11 are selected from the members of the Diversity Action Programme, which Multicultural Tauranga is part of. One recipient is an organisation generally from the local area that has made an outstanding contribution to diversity.

Ewa Fenn (pictured on the left) received the award from Maori King Tuheita. Also present at the awards ceremony was Race Relations Commissioner Joris de Bres.
