The October/November 2015 Skills4Jobs series of workshops for migrants has been met with enthusiasm. Due to the short notice only three participants had signed up for this new course offered by Multicultural Tauranga: Keiko Kingston from Japan, Simi Merhar from Slovenia and Gloria Ocampo Osorio from Colombia (pictured above in this order with course facilitator Carol Andersen). Being a small group proved a bonus for everybody involved as the course facilitator and invited guest speakers were able to better attend to every participant's personal situation.

Here is what the course participants and their facilitator say about this course:

Keiko Kingston, Japan
“First I was not sure whether this course would be useful. Now I am very glad I did sign up because I realised how different things are here compared to Japan, for example the format of CVs and cover letters. I also gained priceless information from various guest speakers and now know what resources are available outside. What I find most valuable is the offer from a personnel agency to help us with CV writing.”

Simi Merhar, Slovenia
“This was a very useful course. I learned a lot about the New Zealand job market. After these four weeks I am able to significantly improve my CV. I would definitively recommend this course to any migrant job seeker. It is also a good way to meet people, make new friends and find out about networking opportunities.”

Gloria Ocampo Osorio, Colombia
“I recommend this course because it allows us to learn a lot about different roles, the different work culture and life in New Zealand. It teaches migrants how to search for jobs through websites and other ways of job hunting. The course motivated me to continue in my efforts to improve my English in order to get a paid job. In summary I gained a lot of useful knowledge.”

Carol Andersen, Facilitator
“These workshops were a very enjoyable journey, and we achieved a lot during these four weeks. One of the important goals was introducing the job seekers to people and agencies where they can help in the future if necessary. The Careers New Zealand website is also a good resource not everybody knows about, especially new migrants.”
