A formal welcoming ceremony hosted by Ngai Te Rangi to welcome migrants to the Bay of Plenty. This event is being organised by Multicultural Tauranga and supported by Welcoming communities. Migrants who have not visited a Marae will have the opportunity of being formally welcomed to the area by the tangata whenua. This experience has been compared to 'breaking a pot plant and putting the roots of the plant into the ground.'

Mark your calendars for Saturday 12th November 2022 for our 2nd Annual Migrant Powhiri.
More details will be forthcoming closer to the date.

If your ethnic community would like to be involved in providing a song, dance or a special event to celebrate your groups culture we would appreciate to hear from you to see about including you in our planning. Please email us at [email protected]

Our 1st Annual Migrant Powhiri was an amazing success:

Hundreds of migrants gathered at the Whareroa Marae to officially welcome migrants to the Bay of Plenty . This ceremony ushers in a new era of inclusion.  Race Relations commissioner Meng Foon attended this event which was lauded as the first powhiri of its'  kind in Aotearoa.
The aspect of the tangata whenua welcoming the migrants to this land was the kaupapa of this event. Many
of the migrants present were deeply touched by this experience as it was one of a kind.

This year’s Ethkick is to be held on
Saturday, 28 September 2019 at Tauranga Boys’ College fields on Cameron Road, Tauranga.

The tournament is hosted by Multicultural Tauranga and New Zealand Police with support
from Blue Rovers Football Club. The entry fee will be $40.00 per team, as previously. However, there will not be a national tournament this year, i.e. games will only be played locally without a national final.

This year Multicultural Tauranga will be running the tournament alongside the ‘New to the Bay Expo 2019’, which will be held at the same venue. This is an event to welcome newcomers and support them to access services and information for positive and successful settlement in the community.

Men’s and women’s teams are welcome.
Please note that the registration deadline is the 21 September 2019.

For more information and registrations forms please contact Multicultural Tauranga on (07) 571 6419 or e-mail: [email protected]

Continuing Multicultural Tauranga's recent cake and bake sales to raise funds, volunteers will again be selling donated items.

There will be cakes and biscuits that have proven popular in the past, but also other things such as fruit and vegetables, plants, seedlings and other things.

The stall is part of the Lions Market and is located in front of Multicultural Tauranga's door on Main Street.

All proceeds go to Multicultural Tauranga to help offer migrant support services.

The bigger your appetite, the better we can support those who need it to find their feet in their new place they now call home.
